As temperatures get colder and rainy days head our way, fewer options are available to keep kids busy on a weekend or day off from school.
But these low-cost options around Spartanburg County provide opportunities to keep children of all ages entertained and moving throughout the day.
The Children’s Museum of the Upstate in Spartanburg is centered around serving children ages 6 years old and under. This two-story children’s museum in the heart of downtown Spartanburg has a variety of activities that will occupy kids for hours. Water tables and building blocks fill the bottom floor. The Main Level contains a book nook, treehouse, Publix grocery store, and a palmetto basics zone for children 18 months old and younger with soft spaces for kids to crawl around and explore.
For kids that enjoy hands-on arts and crafts, Hearts of Clay is the place to go. Hearts of Clay is located by Westgate Mall and has been family owned and operated since 1998. Hearts of Clay provides lots of options to paint, from pottery to canvases. Hearts of Clay also hosts birthday parties and field trips.
Hub City Railroad Museum provides a step back in time. Kids can learn about the history of the railroads in the upstate and how they were connected to the peach and textile industries. For your favorite transportation fanatic, this is a great stop to make.
Arena X, by Big Air, is a one-of-a-kind an indoor ninja tag facility for all ages. Arena X is an indoor arena for customers to put their physical abilities to the test in 15-minute games and 25 challenges. Challenges include the Quarter Pipe. Sky Bridge and Traverse Wall.
Across the county, Spartanburg Public Libraries provide indoor activities for kids. There are story times for babies, toddlers, and preschool aged children. Libraries in the county also provide
Chapman Cultural Center provides entertainment for children in the format of plays, shows, and theatre classes. For children wanting to me mesmerized by the stage, the Chapman Cultural Center will keep them occupied. Upcoming shows of the Spartanburg Youth Theatre include the Wizard of Oz, the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, and the Very Hungry Caterpillar.
The Spartanburg Science Center is located at the Chapman Cultural Center on the second floor of the Montgomery Building. The science center incorporates STEM interests including aviation and robotics.
Hot Wheels Skating Center providing a nostalgic environment for parents and a fun experience for kids, Hot Wheels provides an affordable family friendly option for indoor activities. From beginner to skilled skater, Hot Wheels is sure to be a hit for any age.
Speed Factory Indoor Racing, with its vibrant, graffiti-coated aesthetic, lets you test your top speed with lap and timed options for your treks around the indoor track. Ten-minute packages and track rentals are available. A $5 membership fee is required to drive at the Speed Factory but no other additional license or fees are required.
Big Air Spartanburg Trampoline Park, near the Westgate Mall, the high-flying Big Air Trampoline Park will help your kids (and you) work out some energy as you (literally) bounce off the walls. Big Air offers plenty of jumping surfaces, trampoline dodgeball and slam dunk courts, obstacle courses, foam pits, a climbing wall and more.
