Spartanburg’s growing ability to attract investment from both national and international entities has spawned a parallel rise in the community’s art and cultural offerings. An afternoon at the museum, an evening at the theatre, a day at the symphony, or an hour or two at a writer’s workshop are all just a part of Spartanburg’s art scene.

Celebration of the written word, often considered the building block of artistic thought, is becoming a way of life in Spartanburg. The award-winning HUB CITY WRITERS PROJECT, formed by local writers in 1995, has given a voice to writers throughout the area, publishing nearly 200 of them in books of fiction, history, poetry, mystery, and humor. Downtown coffeehouses host regular readings by Hub City authors, and a popular writing conference is held each summer at Wofford College. Hub City also celebrates the uniqueness of Spartanburg by hosting occasional festivals, concerts, and other public events. Look for Hub City books— more than two dozen of them—for sale throughout the community.
